The term Kathak is derived from the Vedic Sanskrit word Katha which means "story", and Kathaka which means "he/she who tells a story", or "to do with stories".
"Shambhavi’s International School of Kathak” or SISK, is the brainchild of Shambhavi Dandekar. Shambhavi started running a branch of Maneesha Nrityalaya - her family organization when she was merely 18 years old to lighten her mother’s burden. She had the credentials and it was a golden opportunity for a budding performer, to grow as a teacher.
- SISK is honored to present solo Kathak performances by the Jaipur Gharana maestro Pandit Rajendra Gangani along with his senior disciple Swati Sinha and SISK director Shambhavi Dandekar, with live musical accompaniment.
